Scoll down for links to poems
A very reasonable question. I will try to answer it as briefly as I can.
I am a Christian - and have been for over 40 years. For over 10 years before that I was an agnostic 'seeker'. During all that time I have not only read the Bible, but also read and collected hundreds of books written by fellow Christians. Some have profoundly influenced my thinking and lifesyle. I am therefore not one who blindly accepts the teaching of the Church, but an 'evidence based Christian' - satisfied with the evidence that Jesus Christ lived, that he was crucified and rose again from the dead, and who is alive today in the hearts of those those who follow Him.
I also believe that the Bible is true (although I admit that parts of it may be contradictory, or difficult to accept) and that it was divinely inspired. I believe that, as the Bible says over and over again, that God loves us so much that He wants the very best for us with a love akin to a father, and that He loves to give us gifts, be they overtly spiritual or not.
As a lover of great music and art, I am convinced that much music and art is inspired by God and that some artists (in the broadest sense of the word) are 'gifted' in a way that goes beyond natural talent.
I do not, by any means, profess to be a great artist myself, but many of my pictures seem to have a quality about them that delights the viewer in a mysterious way. I have created pictures that I may have put away in a drawer, that when I have looked at them after a few years, 'speak' to me in such a way that I can ony exclaim "That's beautiful! Did I really paint that?"
As many artists and musicians can testify, there are rare occasions when the art, or music, or writing, seems to flow as if it is coming effortlessly from some higher source outside the artist. This I have experienced not only with my art, but also with my poetry, where I can't seem to write it down fast enough, whereas at other times I can wrestle with it and nothing good comes out of it. This, I believe, is the activity of the Holy Spirit.
These influences of the Holy Spirit are worth sharing, for they give delight not only to me, but to the viewer. This website, therefore, is a vehicle not simply to be a platform from which to sell my art, but to share my delight with anyone who responds to the picture in a similar manner.
As Jesus said "I come to give you life, and life in all its fullness" My paintings and poetry represent some of that gift if life. You can see the pictures on the main part of the site. Here are some of the poems I have written.
