Image Galleries - Introduction

The pictures in the Image Galleries were created with molten encaustic 'paints', which are made of artists' pigments blended with purified beeswax. The coloured wax is applied to the 'canvas' (a card with a special surface) with hot metal implements. The wax cools very quickly so the image can be handled within seconds. Also, unlike with oil paints, encaustic paintings do not oxidise so they retain their colours almost indefinitely. The British Museum has encaustics over 2000 years old. These images represent some of Lester's output over several years.

To view the pictures and, if you wish, to buy encaustic paintings, do the following:

Select the Gallery (Landscape, Floral, etc.) by using the IMAGE GALLERIES tab on the main menu or by using the menu (above right). This will take you to a page on which 9 or more thumbnail images are displayed.

Take a closer look at any image by clicking on the middle of the thumbnail. The image appears in a pop-up window. The window is closed by clicking on a barely visible X in the top-right corner, or on any other part of the page.

(You can manoeuvre between galleries by using the blue 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons)

If you want to see the price of, or more information about, any particular image, go to the Information Page by clicking on the relevant green 'Info' button.

The Information Page is where you buy or order a picture. It shows the versions of picture available (Original or Print), sizes, prices, etc. and has comments about the work by the artist. For each version of picture there is a 'Buy Now' button, which links to the PayPal system or secure payment system, which takes the money from your credit card or bank account according to how you set it up. If you don't have a PayPal account you can open one on clicking on the 'Buy Now' button.

Many of the original encaustic paintings have been sold. However, they live on in their images, most of which are used to make Prints, Greetings Cards, etc. including Calendars (for Christmas). A Giclee print is barely distinguishable from the original encaustic.

Another way of looking at the pictures is to watch one or more of the Slide Shows by clicking here

I do hope you will enjoy looking at these unusual pictures and that you will come back to see new pictures as they are placed on the site.
