Encaustic Art - Painting with a Travel Iron

The pictures you can see on this site are known as encaustic paintings. They were created with hot molten pigmented beeswax and most of them were painted, at least in part, with a travel iron. Six of them in the collection on the left were painted entirely with an iron.

Encaustic artist Lester Edenborough takes advantage of the flow properties of molten wax to form 'patterns' (resembling sky, water, hills or mountains, undergrowth, etc.) which are arranged to create a pictorial whole.
